… 38 new cases were reported in 1 day
During the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination program, over 86,000 people were vaccinated – a remarkable achievement for the Ministry of Health, said Minister Dr Frank Anthony.
Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony announced on Monday that outreach teams in the various communities contributed to this figure over the weekend.
“As of yesterday, we have had around 86,601 people vaccinated across Guyana. We had a good weekend because we had several outreach teams in all the regions working to get vaccines out to those communities. I think the response has been very good throughout Guyana, ”said the Minister.
Amid the public’s concerns about inadequate vaccines for the second dose, the Minister explained that doses of all tranches are being kept for the next injection.
“With the AstraZeneca vaccine, whatever you use for the first dose, you have to use a similar vaccine for the second dose. When we received the 80,000 from India, we used 40,000 to immunize people and we withheld 40,000. So, every person who receives a vaccine, we have the second dose aside. ”
He added, “Once again, when people would be ready for their second dose with the Sputnik V, we will have those doses available. So, I don’t think there should be any concern about whether you will get both doses because we have set aside your second dose. ”
Guyana recently joined Caricom’s call for a fair distribution of COVID-19 vaccines and appealed to international financial institutions to provide low-cost funding to all developing countries, especially small provinces.
