A 36-year-old Disc Jockey (DJ) was charged with unlawful assault and wounding when he appeared at Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Clyde Watson, also known as DJ “Raw Gold”, from Cummings Lodge appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan where he denied both charges.
The first charge stated that he illegally assaulted Melissa Duke on April 10, at Lance Gibbs Street, Georgetown. He was also alleged to illegally and maliciously injuring Marlon Williams, also known as “Selector Yannick” on April 10, at the same location.
In court Monday, a police prosecutor told the court that Watson, who is also a broker, was a part-time DJ and had a program at HJ Radio Station while Williams was a music selector. It developed, on the day in question, that there was a rift between Watson and Duke, when she pushed him to the ground, causing her injuries.
He added that Watson further armed himself with a glass bottle that Williams treated with a lash to his face. The bottle apparently broke, causing bodily harm to Williams.
The prosecutor added that Watson then took the broken bottle and dealt with Williams several stabs.
Following the facts, the presiding Magistrate adjourned the matter until May 3 and ordered Watson to issue $ 55,000 bail.
Police had reported that the incident happened around 08:45h at HJ Radio 94.1 on Lance Gibbs Street, Queenstown.
“Raw Gold” was said to have compensated for his escape after the suffering, while “Selector Yannick”, was taken to Georgetown Public Hospital where he was treated and sent away.
Following reports of the incident, the radio station had released a statement claiming that the incident occurred between an independent DJ and his selector during a paid program.
Station managers also said the parties were to face disciplinary action by the business.
“The matter is currently under investigation by the Police and HJ 94.1 has taken a decision to suspend the independent program and the two individuals from our airwaves,” the statement added.
