Letter: Harmon remains a staunch accuser

Dear Editor,

I remember Opposition Leader Joseph Harmon, on more than one occasion, saying that the A Partnership for National Unity / Alliance for Change (APNU / AFC) requires the “PPP (ending) regime to discriminate” in the distribution of COVID-19 relief grants and has accelerated its distribution as thousands of Guyanese nationwide, who are yet to receive their grants, are desperately needed. ”

First of all, APNU / AFC has no credibility. Harmon has been leading a campaign, since post-March 2, 2020, that embodies falsehoods of the most poignant nature. I will mention Guyana Election Voting and Recounting Statements (SoP and SoRs) March 2020. Harmon and his cohorts are even trying to get the courts away from their hidden SoPs, especially those assertive Region Four ones, which will embarrass the APNU / AFC and confirm public information; the People / Civic Progressive Party (PPP / C) won the 2020 elections.

Thus, when it comes to attacking the PPP / C, Harmon’s posse will never be taken seriously. Editor, just as everyone and others ask to see the APNU / AFC SoP, I ask Harmon to bring evidence that the COVID-19 cash grant is distributed in a “differential” manner.

As it claims “… the coalition has compiled a list of around 1710 households that did not benefit from the cash grant,” but received only “… pink slips that appear to be a“ blank promise ”and others received nothing, as they were simply ignored by the distribution teams, ”then as SoP calls, I ask for this list and the location / identity of these people in a corporate way. Allegations have a “burden of proof” and unless Harmon can prove, he will be ignored and life will only go on with him on the sidelines.

Margining at the ridiculous, Harmon claims that “… close to $ 1.5 billion of the money allocated for the cash grant has been siphoned off for political purposes.” Well, prove that this is so.

He detailed that the actual amount was derived by virtue of “household surveys” which were in fact incorrect. Therefore, it needs to detail the areas surveyed, the number of households, buildings with more than one home, and exactly how much money was used for necessary expenses in the distribution. By asking for details, I do not intend to quote figures, as in the case of the now-famous spreadsheet shenanigan, but at least get snapshots, photos and videos of the people, especially in regards to Region One, where Harmon is “giving on tickle, ”telling people that some 376 households did not receive the grant, 101 households did not receive the pink slip, while 275 households received pink slips.

I need not elaborate further. Harmon and his crew grab hold of straw. Life in Guyana is moving on and his empty words are now becoming silent.

Again, I inform readers that the PPP / C leaders have already begun to generate the idea of a second $ 25,000 Cash Grant. They’ve had a few logistical hiccups with the continuous first wave distribution, but nothing in terms of being superficial and dishonest.

Truly,
Attiya Baksh
