Regional Executive Officer Devanand Ramdatt at the RDC statutory meeting

Over $ 100 million will be spent by the Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) administration on several transformational projects along the Essequibo Coast.
This was according to Devanand Ramdatt, Regional Executive Officer (REO), who stated that the projects, when completed, will benefit thousands.
During a media interview, Ramdatt explained that the projects included rebuilding several dams, a reinforced concrete ruler at Marias Lodge and a culvert at Hampton Court.
In addition, over $ 9 million is being invested to improve the infrastructure of several schools including the dam rehabilitation of Dredge Creek Primary School. There are also plans to upgrade the Cullen Primary School road.
He further stated that $ 11,627,530 has been approved to upgrade the third street in Affiance, Essequibo Coast. Also, the sum of $ 9,011,500 was spent on improving the lives of rice farmers by upgrading the Lima Road leading to the main canal.
In addition, a contract totaling $ 10,798,240 has been awarded and entered into for the construction of a timber earthwork at Zorg Nursery School and the roof of the Suddie Diagnostic Center will be redone at a cost of $ 9,262,000.
Construction of exterior bathrooms for public convenience in Anna Regina will cost $ 1,707,740.
Other projects listed are the construction of a drain between public hospitals, a shed at Oscar Joseph Hospital, a bridge at Charity, roadworks at Cotton Field and the construction of the Cheddi Jagan Play Park Bridge.
Going further into the hinterland communities, he noted that over $ 11 million has been approved for the construction of a dual living quarter at Lake Mainstay while another $ 11,919,230 will be spent on a quarter of living at St. John’s Primary School in the Pomeroon Lower.
Mabel Sandy Primary School will also benefit from a dual living quarter.
Also in the budget, according to Ramdatt, is building a wooden bridge at Wakapao in Curemeru, Lower Pomeroon, as well as re-establishing Ulele Nursery.
Finally, $ 12,793,538 was awarded for the construction of Maybel Sandy Nursery at Wakapao Mission, Lower Pomeroon River.
The REO explained that these projects will start soon and that the appropriate Neighborhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) will oversee the projects which will also be overseen by residents and community leaders.
