In a demonstration of its generosity, the Demerara Rotary Club has presented a financial donation to the government and people of St Vincent and the Grenadines to assist the island’s volcano relief efforts.
On Wednesday the President of Demerara Rotary Club, Bhageshwar Murli, presented a check for G $ 1,110,000 to Rotary Disaster Committee Chairman Guyana, Andy Boyle.
Murli said the Club was pleased to contribute to the relief efforts, noting that Rotarians made around 85% of the contributions.
“I would like to thank them all for going into their pockets and harnessing the extra generosity of Rotary donors and friends,” said Murli.
“We can always rely on Rotary friends to continually support our work and we are very grateful for that. We know that these funds go towards a worthy cause and we hope they will help our Vincentian brothers and sisters restore their lives. ”
Guyana has been sending aid to the volcano-ravaged island, exploding as a result of the La Soufriere eruption on April 9, 2021.
A third shipment of relief relief supplies left these shores Tuesday, which were due to St. Vincent and Barbados, which has also been affected by ash spying.
Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, on receiving the first shipment of 350 tons of disaster relief items last Saturday, was Guyana as the cornerstone of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
“I always said in the day when things were a bit difficult in Guyana they would be the main cornerstone of CARICOM … it’s almost like a Bible prophecy is fulfilled,” said the Prime Minister.
