Two policy women, Special Corporal and Constable, were today jointly charged with unlawful data interference when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegations came from the Special Organized Crime Unit (SOCU).
Special Corporal 14750 Carmichael of Onderneeming, West Coast Berbice (WCB) and Constable 25598 of Third Street, Alberttown, Georgetown worked at the Felix Austin Police College Mess Administrative Office.
It is alleged that the policy women deliberately and without excuse or lawful justification, erased electronic data from a computer belonging to the Guyana Police Computer which was located in the Felix Austin Police College Message Administrative Office.
Reports are that SOCU conducted an investigation after receiving information that forged feed accounts were stored on the computer in question. Before SOCU could have accessed the computer, all feed account files were deleted. The defendants are said to be the only ranks who operated the computer.
However, both women pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful data interference, Unlike Section 5 (2) (a) of the Cybercrime Act 2018.
Both were given $ 150,000 bail and the matter was postponed until May 6.
