An Albouystown man shot in his chest by an aide during a remanded robbery

Kaieteur News – Three days after he was shot in the chest by his assistant while escaping with their spirits, Joshua Browne, of Albouystown, Georgetown, was jailed on Wednesday when he appeared in court.
Browne made his first court appearance at Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan. He was slapped with two charges of armed robbery that happened the same day.
Browne denied the charge and alleged that on January 2, 2021, at Sheriff Street, Kitty, Georgetown, while in the company of another and armed with a dangerous weapon, a gun, Anthony Rodrigues stole from several mobile phones worth $ 1,900,000.
He also denied the final charge and stated that, on the same day and at the said location, while in the company of another and armed with a dangerous weapon, I know, Thelbert Seales stole one iPhone ‘X’ mobile phone worth $ 90,000. The court heard Browne was known to the victims.
According to the facts of the charge, around 15:00 hours, while armed with a gun, Browne and his assistant went into a mobile phone shop on Sheriff Street, which belongs to Rodrigues. Browne’s assistant is reportedly holding Rodrigues and Seales at gunpoint while Browne is robbing the store.
While compensating for their escape, Browne’s assistant fired a round in the direction of Rodrigues but struck Browne to his chest. He then collapsed while his assistant continued to run.
He later picked up and ran Browne but due to his injury, did not go the distance and was abducted. Police were alerted and Browne was arrested and the robbery found. He was then taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was admitted and treated for his injury under police custody.
Following his discharge from hospital, Browne was taken into custody and informed of the allegation, subsequently cautioned and charged after admitting the offense.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan remanded Browne to prison, and is expected to make his next court appearance on January 27, 2021. Meanwhile, the manhunt is on for Browne’s assistant.
