Mahaica business woman, others stolen by gun raiders waving – News Room Guyana

A businessman from Mahaica, East Coast Demerara and two others were robbed of cash, jewelry and phones on Saturday by two men, one of whom was armed with a firearm.

According to a police statement, the armed robbery was committed on Pramkumarie Singh, 49, of Riverview Mahaica, Nadia Singh, 29, and Kuntie Singh, 24.

The businesswoman was released with $ 300,000 cash, a sum of GT&T and Digicel phone cards, one gold ring and $ 20,000 gold band and one Iphone.

Meanwhile Nadira robbed her $ 46,000 wedding band and gold chain and one Iphone. The men also took away two Kuntie gold rings, worth $ 30,000.
Police said the businesswoman was operating a grocery store on the basement of her wooden and concrete maisonette.

Shortly after noon on Saturday, the trio was in the store selling when the two suspects came in and ordered two beers.

Police said the woman handed over the beer to them and afterward one of the suspects asked for a drink change.

“The victim was about to hand over the drink when the suspect, armed and unmarked, jumped through the hole at the counter and held them at gun point and demanded cash and jewelry. The victim then barricaded his left jaw and face while demanding cash and jewelry, ”police said.

The other suspect then entered the store through the south door where they took the cash and cellphone cards from a raffle and proceeded to attack the other victims and take away their personal items.
They then took one of the victims to the upper apartment before returning to the lower apartment and making their escape in an unknown direction.
Investigations are ongoing.
