Kaieteur News – As the world becomes more knowledgeable about cryptocurrency, better known as electronic currency, and many people have been reaping the benefits of investing in the seemingly fruitful money-making approach, Guyanese’s Manisha Wong A 25-year-old in the United States, hopes that she can be more publicized in her homeland and contribute to the economy.
In her exclusive interview with Sunday Kaieteur News, she stated that while not a professional cryptocurrency trader, it has allowed her to make some “quick side money”.
Wong said she was first introduced to crypto during a fruitful conversation with a close friend as they were “going into finance”. He explained to her that the cost of Bitcoin would increase as the years went by, but she paid little attention. He then recalled hearing that, about September of last year, the value of Bitcoin was around $ US9,000 and is now around $ 58,000 meaning that its investment could have increased fourfold if it had plunged into cryptocurrency trading since then. People also use cryptocurrency as a savings account because the value of the currency usually rises, according to Wong.
Wong said she officially started trading cryptocurrency in January this year and has learned that there are many types. “You choose only one study and predict the ups and downs,” the 25-year-old noted. Since then she has been investing and seeing profits and can benefit from that venture. He also noted that cryptocurrency is taxable in the US, so that has taught her to be responsible.
It was exciting for her because she has never been able to see that method used to make money before, and she thought it would be great for young Guyanese people to start building their wealth. “This digital currency has been making its way into the mainstream for some time now and some banks are accepting it… some businesses are taking payments – digital crypto currency payments. So this is something that’s not ‘gonna’ go away and people would go for it early especially smaller and smaller countries [fewer] than a million people in it… earlier than later instead of falling behind, we always seem to be about 20 years behind, it would actually – it would be beneficial, ”Wong outlined.
Further, she lamented that the main reason for most people deviating from cryptocurrency is the capital needed to start a business; however, she is determined to dismantle the belief that you need a lump sum of money to begin with. He added that people can start with whatever money they have and that it only started with an investment of US $ 1,000 and over the next month saw an increase to US $ 1,600.
As it relates to ‘e-money’ laws in Guyana, Wong said, “I don’t know if laws will have to change to provide for crypto but everything that deals with money, I’m sure it will things being put in place to regulate crypto. I feel they shouldn’t be so hard on small traders now that businesses are big traders who make over US $ 100,00 in trades or 50,000; however, they should be taxed because that could be considered as another form of tax going to other institutions in Guyana, or infrastructure. ”
This infrastructure, he said, may be building roads and other similar things. He also added that small traders should have some incentives so that they would be encouraged to trade and earn extra income. “I don’t think the regulations should be so hard on the small traders because that’s exactly how you prevent people from charging … if you overwhelm them with too much tax,” he maintained.
She also believes that “big” traders should pay their fair tax, which will benefit the government and the people of the free market.
Wong parted that way before venturing into cryptocurrency trading, she was on her way to establishing her future and said she changed courses a lot as she pursued her studies. She holds a patient care technician certificate, earned from Medger Evers College in NY and an Associate of Arts Degree in Psychology from Miami Dade College.
The ambitious young woman also traveled to Kerala in India to study the philosophy of yoga and is a certified yoga instructor should she decide to teach it. “But I still consider myself a student and hope to pursue longer, more intensive courses throughout my life,” he noted.
Wong is currently a model and works in the fashion industry, with hopes of launching a business venture and pursuing higher education when the time is right as it would be very time-consuming and she wants to ensure that it is something she is very sure about. o.
