
A 22-year-old man wanted in connection with robberies and wounding was shot dead by police in the early hours of Friday in the Ogle Seawall, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Dying is Sherwin Filley, known as Plaisance ‘Red Ants, ECD; the incident happened around 01: 50h.
Police Headquarters stated in a statement that Filley was wanted in connection with a robbery, robbery with violence and three counts of wounding committed on a 50-year-old resident of Lust Vryheid, ECD.
According to police, ranks received information about Filley and went to a disused wooden shoulder on the Ogle seafront where he was locked inside.
As a result, police decided to force open the door and try to capture Filley, who was armed with a broken heart. A police statement noted that the suspect then attacked the cops, released a round, and struck Filley in the eye.
Filley was taken to Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His body is in the hospital mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
