Six pedestrians are currently in patients at West Demerara Regional Hospital following a hit-and-run accident Sunday afternoon, at the Number One Polder Canal access road, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
The injured are Lilowattie Barnabas, 29; Grant Alana, 15; Eight-year-old Rajin Mahendranauth; Esha Mahendranauth, 8; Mesha Margar aged three, and Tanesha Mahendranauth aged seven.
According to information received, a motor car was speeding along the road when the driver attempted to pass another vehicle.
In the process, he apparently lost control of the vehicle and collided with the group of pedestrians who were all walking on the grass parapet.
As a result of the collision, the pedestrians received multiple injuries to their bodies. They were all taken to West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) where they were treated and received.
Their conditions are said to be fixed. Authorities are now looking for the driver of the car, who fled the scene. An investigation has been launched.
