A 27-year-old man is now in Police custody after he allegedly assaulted his wife at their home No. 64 Village, District Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
There are reports on Monday that the man and his brother were at the home drinking alcohol when he called out to his wife and asked her if she was “looking out for her boyfriend”.
The 27-year-old woman, according to Police, did not respond to her husband and remained silent.
This resulted in the man grabbing the woman by her hair, and dealing several punches to the head. The man then pushed his finger into the woman’s eye as he threatened to kill her.
The next day, the woman sought medical attention at a health center. According to Police, the nurse reported the matter after she questioned the victim about her injuries.
Ranks from Village Police Station No. 51 went to the suspect’s home and arrested him.
When they arrived, it was also revealed that, about a month ago, the man had cut his wife on her hand.
The suspect remains in Police custody while the probe continues.
More than a month ago, Godwin Allicock, District Six Sports Officer, was sent to prison for assaulting his alleged wife, Vanetta Thomas, who is Deputy Regional Executive Officer (DREO).
It was revealed that Allicock used threatening language for Thomas when armed with two knives. Following the incident, Thomas went to the Police Station to produce a report. The two knives allegedly made other threats to Thomas were in the presence of Police Officers.
The woman was taken to a safe location as officers tried to disarm Allicock. He was arrested some time after he left the Police Station.
He was later sentenced to three months in prison for the assault. (G9)
