A man killed in a fire, apparently started harming someone else
Kaieteur News – A man was killed Tuesday in a fire that he started, injuring someone else.
Police have identified the man as Phineas Headly, 27, of Lot 63 C, Nabacalis, Demerara East Coast (ECD).
According to a police report, the fire that killed Headly was set at about 16: 50hrs.
An investigation conducted by the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) revealed that the victim had maliciously lit the fire. Fire Chief Kalamadeen Edoo explained that it was the result of a dispute between the victim and another individual.
Kaieteur News understands that the “row” is over “someone cheating on the other”.
Detectives from Headly’s relatives, who live close by, were told they heard a loud explosion and screams coming from his single-storey wooden home that afternoon.
When they rushed out, relatives said they saw him lying in the yard with burns about his body. Firefighters were summoned, according to a police report, and Headly’s relatives rushed him to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
As firemen successfully extinguished the fire at Headly’s home, doctors at the GPHC performed emergency surgery to save his life.
However, those efforts were in vain as Headly died of his injuries at about 21: 50hrs. Since then relatives have been involved with chops that Headly suffered from a mental disorder.
One of those relatives was also quoted in another section of the media saying, he was living with a woman and the two were arguing earlier that day. Primarily, the report stated that he had accused the woman of being unfaithful to him.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
