A robbery conviction escapes from Mazaruni prison

Providence Housing Scheme, a Demerara East Bank man who was serving a 56-month sentence after being convicted of armed robbery escaped from Mazaruni Prison on Friday.

Reports are that around 03: 15h made Kevin Lafleur run for his freedom to the bushes close to the prisons. According to Police, prison officers scoured the area but did not find the escape route.

As such, the Joint Services team was called in to search for the person who had escaped.

On February 16, four prisoners, including death row inmates, convicted of murder and manslaughter, escaped from high security Mazaruni Prison in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

Those who had escaped were 25-year-old Imran Ramsaywack, from Adelphi Village, East Coast Berbice (ECB); Kenrick Lyte, 44, and his last known address was Grant Good Intent, Lower Pomeroon River; Samuel Gouveia, 22, of Coedverwagting, East Coast Demerara (ECD), and Rayon Jones, 22, of Timehri, Demerara East Bank (EBD).

Ramsawack and Jones were killed during a shootout with Police on March 22 at approximately 20: 40h in the Better Hope Backlands, Demerara East Coast (ECD). Lyte and Gouveia are still fleeing.
