A sailor is scared to death after his feet were caught in a fishing net and fell overboard off Waini Mouth, Northwest Region, Region One (Barima-Waini).
The man has been identified Vickram Hardowar, 45, of Uitvlugt Village, Demerara West Coast.
Police said the incident happened sometime 04:30h on Monday.
Hardowar was part of a six-member crew that included 50-year-old Nazim Hossain, boat captain of Zeelugt East Bank Essequibo; Faruk Khan, 46, sailor to Zeelugt East Bank Essequibo; Cecil Henry, age 33, sailor; Errol Roberts, 48, a seaman for Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, and Imran Roberts, 20, a sailor.
Hardowar was reported throwing their fishing seine in the ocean some 65 miles offshore when his feet touched the said seine and fell overboard into the ocean.
His colleagues, seeing what was happening, threw two lifejackets in his direction and were in the process of turning the boat around when they heard him shout for help three times before going quiet.
They searched the area but could not find it.
As a result, they went to Morawhanna Police Station and reported the matter. They are currently at Mabaruma Police Station assisting with the investigations.
A search party is currently located in that area.
