A 17-year-old pedal cyclist is now in hospital after colliding with a Local Government Ministry vehicle along Port Mourant Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
The crash is said to have happened on Monday around 16:30h. The casualty has been identified as Dave Bipchand of Babu Jaan, Corentyne, Berbice.
Based on reports received, the driver of the vehicle was proceeding along that public road at a moderate speed when the cyclist rode to the path of the vehicle.
The driver told Police he had tried to bring the vehicle to a stop but the cyclist was already close, resulting in a collision.
The young man allegedly fell on the road and received multiple injuries to his body.
He was picked up in a conscious condition and transported to Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was examined and transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was admitted.
The driver has been taken into custody and assists with investigations.
