Dear Editor,
In the past week, we have been flooded with revelations of the PNC Government’s corrupt practices while in office. The scope and extent of corruption has not reached its peak as more and more corrupt activities are revealed as the investigation progresses to various Government Ministries.
The central figure in this latest pest is the “honorable”, or should I paraphrase that statement to read, the dishonest David Patterson – he received millions in gifts and furniture donated to him by various Government agencies. These were all wrapped and packaged with the taxpayers’ dollars they deserve, so from our own viewing point, it is fitting that Patterson can be called the “minister of gifts.”
Now, this guy is “gifted of celebrity” having received a number of kicks ever since taking office in 2015, some of which he apportioned to himself, while others he conditioned out of some of the agencies that came under his Administration. His kleptomaniac tendencies appear to be well in place long before he takes office! Patterson is the prime example of what we can describe as what a Minister’s office can do for him, rather than what he as Minister can do for his country.
It is a completely unacceptable, dishonest and respectful position to be taken by such a high position. But this is the situation we have had to endure as a nation for five years and 3 months.
Government Ministers are prohibited by law from accepting donations, simply because it is a route that can be used for corrupt purposes. This fact is plainly obvious, so Patterson cannot fake ignorance of it, which also tells us that this shameless citizen was wrong to have mentioned that it was a normal act of receiving gifts. So let’s quickly examine this man’s stewardship.
In the first place, Patterson is on record as a Minister who, I repeat, never completed any project during his watch, which tells you that he is far too busy receiving gifts than to take on the duties dedicated to carrying out the work of the people. . Working for the people was the least on his list of duties. I’m talking about his gifts of money put into his personal bank account by the Chinese, while jewelery of all kinds is ravaged on him from his acolytes. This was his agenda while holding public office.
We are also aware of the suspicious and shady connections of this Minister, as we consider that his brother was busted with nearly 8 pounds of cocaine in Grenada. Despite the damning testimony of a brother who left these shores with the illicit substance, the individuals who facilitated that drug transaction, as well as his intertwined corrupt associates, we are still left in the dark to discover it. So, except for Patterson being one of them, the Granger Government did not want to prosecute or prosecute the offending brother in this matter, quite interesting to say the least!
But we know this – about the same time that Patterson’s brother got the illegal substance, another drug bust of a Guyanese Indian gentleman was by Grenadian authorities. In that second bust, there is a lot of mystery surrounding that event. The Indian gentleman was never charged and never brought to justice. This raises many questions: why would a drug-caught Indian be dropped off the hook so easily knowing the racial politics that prevail in our country? This doesn’t make sense. You must also consider that there was another person called Patterson who was at one time the interim Chief Justice of that Island. I wonder if all of the above factors are acting in concert? Therefore, I call on you readers to reach your conclusions on this issue.
But lest the PNC insist that these disclosures are in any way a justified move by the governing PPP / C Government, then they should take a step back and review their own actions towards the PPP / C when they were in power . All of them were a constant parade of PPP / C personnel before the courts, from former Presidents to Dr Luncheon, wheel chair, and none were exempt. Therefore, the PNC is full of excuses for their actions in Government, all they have to do is stand up and take it as a man.
My advice to the Government is that Patterson and his cohorts should be dragged before every court to answer accusations of their corrupt practices. Either they make a recovery like in the Westford case (hopefully I’m quoting the right person) or face jail time, we demand no more, no less.
I close by saying that a new spill is blowing through the land, that is we will not consider pollution – in any form or form – and similarly we did not tolerate it under the PPP / C we will not give it free pass under the APNU / AFC. Everyone must be held accountable to the people of this country. All traces of corruption must be removed from Government as we pilot the way forward.

Respectfully,
Neil Adams
