Unfortunately, the Ministry of Health (MOH) reports that two other people who tested positive for the new coronavirus (COVID-19) died on April 19, 2021. This takes the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 273.
The most recent deaths are two men: a 60-year-old man from Region 6 (East Berbice-Corentyne) and a 56-year-old man from Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice). Both died while being cared for at our medical facility.
The MOH sincerely sympathizes with the families of the two deceased and will make every effort to provide all the necessary support during this difficult time to provide any assistance needed.
The Ministry is also appealing to the public to respect the confidentiality of both deceased and their families and to allow them to mourn their tragic loss in peace.
All Guyanese are reminded to observe the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES protocols (NO.16), in force until April 30, 2021. This order emphasizes that:
▪ the need to use a face mask correctly and consistently when leaving your home;
▪ the importance of maintaining the physical distance six feet from others;
▪ and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
