Kaieteur News – Members of the University of Guyana Economic Association have been encouraged to take up the sport of golf following a recent fundraising activity at Nexgen Golf Academy and Driving Range on Woolford Avenue.
The idea of a bake sale paired with a day of Golf Govindra Raghubansi-Project Coordinator was offered to Guyana Golf Association President Aleem Hussain who quickly encouraged the group by offering the venue for their event so that it would have greater value and appeal. to their fans.
Over 30 people supported the event and the majority received lessons from Hussain, before going on to share an afternoon of competition and lots of fun, a picnic under the trees and enjoying time together. “This was an opportunity for us all to relieve a lot of stress from studies and we definitely want to do it again,” said Govindra.
UGES President Yasmin Fazil said she rated the experience a 10/10 and would absolutely recommend it to everyone since she achieved the goals set by the executive team, successful fundraiser and student fun leaders . “This was one of our best activities in terms of student participation and feedback and they all stated that they would love to come back and play Golf. Something I myself didn’t expect I would be able to do! ”
Hussain said, “We continue to show that golf is a sport that people of all ages and especially those who have never played before can enjoy, and we are delivering on the promise that we can, in less than 5 minutes, teach anyone how to hit the ball and start having fun. ”
Guyana Golf Association and Nexgen Golf Academy have been extremely active in 2020 despite all the obstacles that sport in general has faced and it is the only organization that has seen its participation in the sport grow over 400% in one year. From golf camps to charity events and competitions, Nexgen Golf Academy has demonstrated community involvement and dedication to the development of the sport, making the most of being one if only 19-covid compliant activities.
With the emphasis on schools, women and children, Hussain said he feels confident that by the time he transfers the leadership of the Association, Guyana will have made great strides in the world of Golf with plans to develop inter-school, inter-regional and a national championship leading to Olympic team development.
