The Guyana senior men’s basketball team will kick off their campaign at tonight’s FIBA 2023 World Basketball Cup Pre-Qualifying Cup, when they face Nicaragua from 21:00 hours at the José Adolfo Pineda National Gym in El Salvador.
Guyana, which will be without Timothy Thompson’s services following a positive COVID-19 test, will be led by Stanton Rose, captain of the AmeriCup 2021 Former Caribbean Qualifiers (FIBA). The other members of the squad are siblings Delroy and Gordon James, Deylon Anthony, Anthony Moe, Travis Belgrave, Harold Adams, Akeem Crandon, Terron Welsh, Israel Yaw and Nicholai Smith.
Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) President Michael Singh confirmed during a pre-match comment that the combination of foreign and foreign players, provides the team of the quality necessary to achieve a positive result. He added, “I think the depth of our team is with our foreign players and the energy of the locals, I think we have a good chance of competing and beating Nicaragua,” he declared.
