‘Bill Cotton / reform’ praises Freddie Kissoon

Dear Editor,

He has played fatigue in 2020. Freddie deserves the title of ‘Columnist of the Year’ for this and a few years before that. If brave journalism is about writing without fear and favor and holding truth to power it has done so in shovels this year. Not killed by personal and professional insults from all sides, he has kept his job during and after that attempted rigid election.
He (and others) were true friends of democracy. Without them, he would have rebelled and Guyana would have become a military dictatorship with a failed Brigadier (and below par President) at his apex. State of pariah,
The country had a lucky escape thanks to Freddie and the Dreamers (mostly foreign).
Since then, he has been relentlessly calling out the guilty men and women and finding a little more to put him on the wrong steps. He is relentless in the pursuit of truth and blame.
From afar, I read it every morning as a change from the livy rivers at Johnson fan club called UK newspapers. It’s refreshing and to the point.
My one caveat is ‘too much Freddie’! Sometimes his daily columns seem cut off. Reduce the number and pay him more as Lall Chairman. And less Psychology 101 please Mr Kissoon, and they don’t talk philosophy in Canal Number Two!
Freddie is not a stooge of the PPP and has good reason to be despite opening the door for them; his pen will find targets there soon I’m sure.
But, in 2020, Kissoon has proven to be a real friend of democracy and there is no substitute for the public sphere of journalism. Guyana needs more Freddies. Pickle him and make some clones.

Truly,
John ‘Bill Cotton / Reform’ Mair
