With threats to food security in the Caribbean looming due to the growing impact of climate change on the region’s agricultural sector, and more recently, the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, Caribbean Community member countries (CARICOM) in partnership with the Government . Canada and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) through its “Cooperation for Climate Change and Adaptation in the Caribbean” initiative are embarking on a campaign to help the region adapt to climate change through the application of digital technologies. Information released on the initiative indicates that the intention is to infuse a robust climate-scrutiny infrastructure into the region’s agricultural sector.
The initiative that represents a response to the challenges facing the regional agri-food system in seeking to maximize food production and improve food security, will include the increasing application of digital technology in the agricultural sector. This approach will involve using innovative technologies to search for solutions to the challenges of climate change. It will also seek to improve the connectivity of all actors in the agri-food system in order to reduce inefficiency.
