CARICOM calls for immediate release of Guyanese crew members, ships

Statement by the Caribbean Community
on Ship Keeping and Guyanese Fishing Crew

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) expresses serious concern over the escalation of tensions between Guyana and Venezuela caused by the interception and detention of two Guyanese fishing vessels in Guyana’s Unique Economic Zone on January 21, 2021.

Recalling its statement of January 12, 2021 in which it had firmly denied any acts of aggression by Venezuela against Guyana, CARICOM urges the Government of the Bolivian Republic of Venezuela to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Guyana and refrain from acts of aggression that will will seriously undermine peace and security not only Guyana and Venezuela but the entire Caribbean region.

The Caribbean Community is calling for immediate release of crew members and boats.
