Police station shooting

Twenty-four-year-old Police Constable David Lampkin of Fortuin Wood, West Coast Demerara (WBD) appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan on Monday charged with unlawful assault.
Lampkin pleaded not guilty to the charge read by Chief Magistrate McLennan, who noted that on January 31, 2021, at Brickdam Police Station, he had unlawfully assaulted his colleague, Constable Corinth Corbin.
Meanwhile, the Constable’s Attorney told the court that his client had been shot to his leg by another officer while on duty. He added that his client who was a victim complied with the court while the accused was still fleeing. As such, he sought reasonable bail for his client.
However, the Prosecutor told the court that officers were involved in a scuffle and that Lampkin was shot. He added that Corbin was wanted, and once arrested, would face charges.

Lampkin was released on self-bail, and was due to reappear in court on May 18, 2021.
Police said, in a previous report, that Constable Lampkin was shot to his leg at about 05:00 h on January 31.
Police said both ranks were on duty at Brickdam Police Station when an argument over a pair of slippers went missing.
Following the incident, Constable Lampkin was rushed to Georgetown Public Hospital where he was treated for the gunshot wound to his right leg. (G15)
