… In Guyana It has been four months now since W.Berbice’s three sons – first cousins Henry Isaiah and Joel, then Haresh Singh – were brutally murdered. Their relatives and Guyana all pray that these cases should be resolved as soon as possible – if nothing else than to bring closure to the bereaved families why their children were abducted so violently. But there is another reason to quickly wrap up the case. As we know, opportunistic PNC Leader David Granger and Opposition Leader Joseph Harmon rushed to one of Henry’s bereaved homes and made wild and unfounded POLITICAL links to the murder of cousins. Following that supplementary statement, all hell broke loose on West Berbice when Indian-Guyanese – the equivalent of “PPP supporters” – were violently attacked in widespread protests along the Public Road. Then Haresh was murdered. Although one of the PNC factions has called for peace, the country remains on the precipice because other PNC elements have kept heavy beats of racial / political affiliation with the Henrys murders. Guyana Police – with the help of CariCom RSS – conducted an investigation into the crime scene and determined that the murders of Henry’s boys – whose bodies were cruelly hacked and their “Xs” carved into their heads – were not committed where the bodies were found. They arrested some locals – including Haresh relatives – but soon released them. An autopsy was conducted and crime scene samples were sent and received to St Lucia Forensic Lab, but these provided no clues as to the perpetrators of the heinous crimes. The GHRA emerged from its hibernation to require a team of Argentine Anthropological Forensic scientists to be flown in to investigate. As this team focused on the identification of randomly murdered bodies and the three murdered youths known, there was some doubt as to what exactly they could do. The only area they could have helped in was if it was necessary to check DNA material from the crime scene to find out if they had others than the murdered youths. The Argentine team Leader came to Guyana, visited the crime scene and requested some documentation from the Police. The latter promised to share materials / information from the crime scene and autopsy, but the proposal has not been updated. The Government had always made it clear that they had asked the United States and Britain for assistance, as these were ongoing relationships. The FBI just responded, and will offer assistance in some area required to solve the crime. Progress and hope!
… And psychological profiling One area of law enforcement for which the FBI is well-deserved is the psychological profiling of perpetrators of violent crime – performed by their Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU). They routinely receive requests from foreign police, and we hope this unit is used. Unlike the Argentine Anthropological Forensics team, which specializes in identification, FBI forensic psychologists find and classify the main personality and behavior characteristics of criminals based on an analysis of the crime committed. We don’t have to be fans of “Criminal Minds” to know that these are the people we need to solve these crimes. It takes a certain mindset to slaughter the youths as it did. Typically, the profiling will be in five stages – 1: Assimilation phase, where all crime scene and autopsy information is analyzed; 2: The “classification phase”, to integrate the above information into a framework that essentially classifies the murderer as “organized” or “chaotic”. 3: Rebuilding the behavioral sequence of the offense; 4: Identify the “signature” of the perpetrators – eg was this a professional killer; 5: Check if the murder was “staged” – apparently the Henrys were. Eleven laymen can say Haresh was murdered by someone else.
