Demerara Cricket Board Elections court rules to be held on Friday

– File an appeal

Kaieteur News – The High Court ruled Monday that the election of office officials of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) is to be held on Friday, February 19. The meeting to elect the DCB Executive is scheduled for 11:00 hours at Cricket Demerara Club (CDC), Lance Gibbs and New Garden Streets, Queenstown, Georgetown. However, it was revealed that an appeal against the decision had been filed.
The five associations associated with the DCB are now required to submit representatives. However, after the ruling of Justice Navindra Singh, three of the five associations under the DCB government; Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB) and Upper Demerara Cricket Association (UDCA) were fully compliant providing their list of representatives to contest the elections.
The other two voting rights associations are the East Bank Cricket Association (EBCA) and the West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA) which did not produce a list at that time.
The GCA, ECCB, EBCA and WDCA each have seven votes, while the UDCA has three for a total of 31 votes to determine DCB elections.
However, following the Supreme Court ruling, an appeal was filed to set aside the decision.
More details as this development unveils.
Following a decision last September when the Court of Appeal ruled that the Cricket Administration Act should be restored to its original state, this paved the way for the DCB and subsequent Guyana Cricket Board elections to be held after this.
Now everyone will have to wait for the legal moves to decide whether these DCB elections, which take place on Friday, will go ahead as initially ordered by the Court last Monday.
