Diamond man released from rape of woman in Promenade Gardens

Received: Samuel Whaul.

Kaieteur News – Samuel Whaul, an accountant, of Demerara East Bank’s Diamond Housing Scheme, accused of raping a 20-year-old woman in 2018, has been released from the crime. Whaul was acquitted by a mixed jury of twelve members who presented a unanimous guilty verdict before Justice Jo Ann Barlow in the High Court in Georgetown yesterday.
Whaul was also found not guilty on the alternative count of sexual assault. The accused pre-rape was represented by attorney-in-law, Adrian Thompson, and State Prosecutors Sarah Martin and Nafeeza Baig presented the facts of the case.
According to the details of the case, Whaul was accused of rape by a woman he met on social media and took out for ice cream.
On the day of the event, the two communicated on Facebook and later met at Quality Fast Foods and Bakery in Georgetown before heading to Demico House for ice cream. They later went to Promenade Gardens, where the rape is alleged to have taken place.
The information is that while at Promenade Gardens, Whaul attempted to get the victim to engage in sexual activity with him. He allegedly told her to sit on his lap and tried to disassemble his pants by damaging his button in the process. Whaul was allegedly holding the woman by the neck as she fell to the floor and placed his hand in his pants and penetrated with his finger.
The woman is alleged to have successfully fought her attacker and sought the help of a group of men who were taking part in a basketball game at the nearby basketball court. The matter was reported to police and Whaul was arrested and charged with rape and sexual assault.
