Digicel Guyana plugs $ 2M to help St. Vincent – Guyana Newsroom

Digicel Guyana today announced its ALL $ 2,000,000 donation to the Civil Defense Commission (CDC) as calls continue for relief assistance to the island of St Vincent and the Grenadines, which were destroyed by Le Soufriere’s volcanic activity.

Thousands of people have been evacuated from the red zone and housed in shelters, as a result of falling ash from the explosive La Soufriere explosions. These eruptions have affected the whole island and the situation remains difficult for residents.

“Digicel is committed to working with the Government of Guyana on national and regional emergencies and commends the CDC for managing the relief efforts. We are confident that our gift will be put to good use in meeting some of the immediate needs of the people of Vincent and the Grenadines, “Digicel said in a press release.

In handing over Simone Pierre, the Head of Commercial said, “Digicel is honored to be part of this collaborative effort initiated by the CDC to provide relief to the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines. We would like the Vincentians to know that our hearts and prayers are with them during these difficult times ”.

Digicel Group has also demonstrated its commitment to helping the St Vincentians rebuild by donating US $ 500,000 worth of much needed items to the St Vincent government and the Grenadines last week.

Commenting on the assistance, Digicel Group Chairman Denis O’Brien said; “With our priorities helping to keep people safe and in touch, at times like these it is our natural instinct to want to do everything we can to help. As a company, as a team and as a Digicel family, we are here for the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines and ready to help in a meaningful way. ” (Digicel Guyana)
