An excavator went on the Aurora Gold Mines site, hurting a warehouse worker who has since been moved to the city for medical treatment, a senior company official said.
Peter Benny, Human Resources Manager of Zijin Mining Group in the Upper Cuyuni, said the worker suffered injuries to his right leg when the digger collapsed at the back of the dining hall kitchen. “He was helping to unload some materials that had arrived at Camp by truck,” he told Radio-Guyana News-Talk 103.1 FM / Demerara Waves Online News.
Mr Benny said that depending on the medical examination, the incident could lead to the first time loss event in about 270 days. “We have hardly had any lost time accident since they (Zijin) took over. The record has been good but these things are happening, ”he said.
The employee was moved to the coast by Roraima Airways and taken to a private city hospital for paid treatment all costs in accordance with company policy, Mr Benny said.
The HR Manager advised that the company would investigate the incident and would also report it to the Occupational Safety and Health Department of the Ministry of Labor, and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission.
Zijin Mining Group Co Ltd. acquired Gold Aurora Mines from Guyana Goldfield in Canada in August, 2020.
