The Education Minister in Mps schools on bad behavior

Education Minister Priya Manickchand

Kaieteur News – In her presentation of her budget presentation, Education Minister Priya Manickchand criticized the House, but in particular the opposition of the A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU + AFC) for its poor behavior in Parliament.
Minister Manickchand’s education comes on the heels of a Kaieteur News article published on February 23, which revealed the ramming of racist, homophobic and sexist insults from one Member of Parliament (MP) to another during the opening of budget debates.
In that article, Kaieteur News highlighted various instances of the verbal mudslinging. In one case, Opposition Leader Joseph Harmon, who had shouted at the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Kwame McCoy, “I have a lil ‘boy for you.”
Shortly afterwards, MP Catherine Hughes shouted to Minister McCoy, “Rainbow! Rainbow! Rainbow! ”This is a known reference to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) flag.
Against this background, the Education Minister told the National Assembly yesterday, “In 2021, we cannot use people’s sexuality or sexual orientation, or what we think people should or should be. I couldn’t in this house. And it has to be condemned and it must be rejected … I say here and now, to any person from the LGBTQ community, you have a friend in us. I would not tolerate derogation of any member, put down any member of that community, or use the idea that someone might be devaluing that person. ”
Kaieteur News, in that same article on Feb. 23, revealed how MPs would insult other MPs for their infertility, as did coalition MP Geeta Chandan-Edmond. At the outset of that MP’s speech, the Attorney-in-Law had wished late birthday greetings to the Attorney General (AG) and Legal Affairs Minister Anil Nandlall. But she didn’t stop there, as the coalition MP took a jab at the childless PE by saying, “I’m a proud mother of two children. All the credit goes to my husband. ”
With this, Manickchand wished to “condemn in the strongest language” the contempt of those suffering from the complications of infertility. He said, “People are struggling with fertility issues. On both sides of this House, you have them. It is understandable for people to use their own children as a reference point to hurt others in this House, and he talks about a caliber that is not worthy of being in this House. And it must never happen again! ”
The Education Minister, before moving to the core of her presentation, reminded the House that the conversation should not be about MP weight, hair or dressing style. “We’re better than that!” he said, “This country is demanding and deserving more!”
