Kaieteur News – A laborer was charged yesterday at Magistrates Court No. 51 for murdering his step-nephew from Village No. 43, Corentyne, Berbice.
Appearing before the court to answer the charge was Vernan Ravi Rangadoo, 45. He was accused of murdering Mahendra Ramotar named “Sonny” and Surendra Raghunandan named “Ranga”. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
The prosecution for Magistrate Alex Moore who made a virtual appearance noted that the file is not complete as there are recommendations from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Shalimar Ali-Hack for further investigations into the incident. The accused was then kept in prison until April 23, where the case will be heard again.
Meanwhile, as the accused made his way out of court escorted by the ranks of armed police, Kaieteur News asked him his reason for committing the cruel act. He responded, “Dem beats me too much.” He further said that after investigating, he stabbed the brothers on his own.

Then he exclaimed, “You must be mad to do this for no reason.”
Last Sunday, it was reported that the two brothers, Mahendra and Surendra, were murdered on Public Road No. 43 while their mother, Sookmattie Richmond remained hospitalized due to a deep sore to the breast area during the said incident.
Based on the information provided to police by the accused, there has been a domestic dispute between his brother Randolph Richmond and Sookmattie. The accused told police he grabbed a knife and stabbed the two men in his brother’s defense and subsequently stabbed his sister-in-law. Then he returned home.
This news agency understands that the police arrested the accused murderer at his house that night and that the murder weapon was recovered there as well.
Post mortem examinations carried out on the bodies of the brothers by Government Pathologist Vivekanand Bridgmohan revealed that Raghunandan died of collapsed lungs due to multiple stab wounds. That was aggravated by shock and haemorrhage. As for Ramotar, he died from stab wounds to the abdomen and thorax (chest) aggravated by shock and haemorrhage.
