LIMA, (Reuters) – Far left candidate Pedro Castillo leads the Peruvian presidential race with 16.1% of the vote, followed by conservative Keiko Fujimori and liberal economist Hernando de Soto, tied for second place with 11.9% , according to an Ipsos exit survey released last night.
In fourth place are social conservative Yonhy Lescano, with 11% of the vote, followed by ultra-conservative Aliaga Rafael Lopez with 10.5% and left-hander Veronika Mendoza with 8.8%, according to the exit poll.
Official results are expected to start coming in at 11:30 pm (0430 Monday GMT). The top two candidates will advance to a second round in June.
Fujimori, the daughter of imprisoned ex-President Alberto Fujimori, tweeted that she was expecting to take part in the next fight. “I have great faith that our involvement in the second round will be confirmed in the next few hours,” he wrote.
The turnout of 30,000 voters who left polling stations in 150 provinces had a margin of error of 3 points.
