Four charges about a woman verbally abusing a COVID relief distributor
Kaieteur News – A Princess Street woman was dragged yesterday to court to answer four charges, alleging she verbally assaulted a COVID-19 cash grant distributor, used threatening behavior, attacked a TSU rank and damaged her tactical vest.
The woman, Vanessa Gonsalves, 38, a seller of Lot 45 Princess Street, Georgetown, made her first court appearance before Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus. He denied the four charges and adjourned the matter until April 19, 2021.
The first charge alleges she displayed threatening behavior on March 5, 2021, in Russell Street, Charlestown, toward Alicia Adams, a COVID-19 relief cash grant distributor. The second accusation, on March 5, 2021, also in Russell Street, Charlestown, stated that she used abusive language toward Adams.
The third and fourth charges allege that Gonsalves, on the same date and location, unlawfully assaulted Police Constable Vickram Luknauth, a peace officer who was acting in the course of his duty, and damaged his tactical vest illegal and malicious, worth $ 9,500.
Gonsalves is represented by attorney-in-law, Darren Wade. The lawyer told the court that his client was allegedly assaulted by ranks and received a black and blue eye.
He also told the court the police had detained his client in custody from March 5, until yesterday for available offenses. Wade then asked for Consulves to be released on her own recognizance.
However, a police prosecutor opposed granting bail, noting that Gonsalves allegedly assaulted a peace officer and damaged his property.
The magistrate, Isaacs-Marcus, granted bail to Consulves in the amount of $ 5,000 for the threatening behavior charge and self-bail on the other three charges.
