Kaieteur News – The Garden City Rotary Club in conjunction with the District 7030 Childhood Obesity Prevention Committee launched a healthy eating children’s handbook called, “Eat Well, Move Well.”
The book, written by Rotarian, Valentin Marie, of the Rotary Club of Remire Montjoly in French Guiana and illustrated by Rotarian Diego, looks to provide a simple but technically sound guide for girls and boys on healthy eating and exercise.

Teachers and guardians can use the book for eight-year-olds to share information about healthy food choices in a storytelling format for greater impact. It is also an educational tool, which looks at the benefits of healthy eating, drinking water and exercise.
On Monday, a donation of 50 copies was seen at the National Library in the city’s youth departments, book boats and out-of-area library centers.
The Principal Librarian, Emily King, on behalf of the National Library expressed her gratitude to the 7030 Rotary and District Club for the timely intervention of such a publication. He added that after reviewing the content of the book, the information is presented in an easy to understand format and will be a worthwhile addition to the Library’s youth section.
According to a press release from the Rotary Club, the District 7030 has embarked on an initiative to reduce the incidence of childhood obesity across the region where one in three children is overweight or obese. The booklet is one of several initiatives, including distributing water bottles to schoolchildren that the 7030 District will focus on for at least three years, the release said.
