Kaieteur News – Guyana’s cricket fraternity is in mourning following the death of Guyana Cricket Board and Demerara Cricket Board treasurer Pretipaul Jaigobin.
The 54-year-old Jaigobin died in a motor vehicle accident on April 1 and was currently on duty coordinating the second phase of Covid’s 19 cash grant.
The body of the late Jaigobin, a survivor of a horrific acid attack that disfigured his face a decade ago, believed to be linked to GCB liability issues, was cremated at Good Hope Crematorium on the East Demerara Coast at a rainfall of 14:00 hours yesterday. Also present at the funeral parlor was His Excellency President Irfaan Ali who interacted with the Jaigobin family and other attendees, sharing in the feeling of grief at good servant toilets for the soil.

Family and various officials with the remains of Pretipaul Jaigobin prior to his cremation yesterday.
Jaigobin’s body, appointed in March as GCB executive when that entity held ‘legal’ Elections for the first time in more than 10 years, was at Jerrick’s Funeral Parlor yesterday morning before being transported to the East Coast Demerara residence for further viewing and a funeral.
The body was taken to the final resting place where it was cremated as family members wept openly.
Due to covid-19 only a small concentration of mourners, including DCB and GCB officers, were also present.
GCB’s new president, Businessman and longtime family friend Bissoon Singh was full of emotions as he spoke about Jaigobin’s legacy at the funeral service.
From 2009-2011 Jaigobin served on the GCB as the assistant treasurer.
Pretipaul was an economic and financial analyst of the European Union Task Force Unit in Guyana’s Ministry of Finance, and was traveling from Mahdia to the ministry when the accident happened.
“Jai, as he was popular, was well liked and respected. His ingenuity, humility and sense of humor were aimed at many, ”said the head of GCB
“Pretipaul had been an active and trusted cricket administrator for over 20 years with extensive knowledge of the game, especially in relation to cricket records and statistics. His contributions to the discussions and decisions at cricket meetings especially on financial matters and effective governance were invaluable.
Jai had a special affinity for youth cricket. His professional approach helped to stimulate positive action in cricket administration. He was constantly looking at ways to improve the accounting and marketing procedures. ”
“The passing of Pretipaul is a huge loss to the wider cricket fraternity. With heartfelt grief the GCB and DCB Executives and staff members extend sincere condolences to his family, relatives and friends, ”said the GCB.
