An enjoyable afternoon in the company of one of the current key players in what is almost certainly the most enduring restaurant in contemporary Guyana, Clinton Urling, was sufficient to send a message that the advent of COVID-19 has done little to ease the entrepreneur. the spirit of the second generation owners of German Restaurant.
Just over an hour of chatting with Clinton persuaded me that the lean days the restaurant, known for its soups and stews wherever Guyanese live, have had to endure over the past year like other enterprises, has done nothing to stop the owners’ decision or allay the enthusiasm of its patrons.
More than what remains rock solid at its ‘Tiger Bay’ location, German has moved on. During our discourse, Clinton revealed the steps the initiative has taken. German today, is one of the few indigenous enterprises, which has spread its proverbial wings abroad, navigating, over the past three years, the complexities of establishing its first restaurant in Brooklyn, New York.
