Good intentions – Stabroek News

The only thing that is constant is change

– Heraclitus (Greek philosopher)

How many of your New Year 2020 resolutions did you achieve? A little bit? All? Nothing? I imagine many have set out to exercise, lose weight, drink less, join a gym, travel, find a new job, save money; but then COVID-19 arrived, it still happens, and it all changed our lives. So, what’s the plan for 2021?

Hope is rising as we enter 2021. While 2020 is a year of loss, heartbreak, separation, isolation, desolation and unrest, it was also a year when we saw faith renewed in humanity. We saw selflessness, sacrifice and sharing. Overall, we saw the best of others; it is a shame that he has to take on a global pandemic to remind us of who and what is important. And it was not as if we were not informed, advised or shown; around us were signs and voices – from business practices to education and education; from environment to industry; from family lives to human interaction. As we move into this New Year, let’s do so thinking and applying all the constructive things we’ve learned. Let us get on with good intentions to do better and to be better.
