Kaieteur News – The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) has officially designated several portions of state lands across the country, in preparation for their conversion into a residential housing scheme as part of the government’s proposed plan to publish about 50,000 housing lots during his first time in office.
As such, the areas identified for the development of housing schemes have been listed under new regulations and have since been approved by the board.
New plans that should be developed for development over the next five years include East Berbice Housing Development. That area of land is bounded to the north by the Berbice Bridge Access Road which runs south to the Ordnance Housing Scheme with Cumberland to the east.
A village planning plan has also been listed in Village # 75 for a new housing area that is part of the existing Corentyne Berbice Housing Development.
In addition, the formal resolutions were also passed for a village planning plan for the Skeldon Estate Countryside Planning Scheme, a new housing area that is said to be part of the existing Corriverton Housing Development.
That new plan will border the Berbice River to the north and rice lands to the south between Village No. # 79 and Queenstown.
Similarly, another area that has since been designated for the Experimental Planning Scheme in the vicinity of Hope Village to the East and the Bath Settlement to the west with its northern boundary identified as the Atlantic Ocean and lands rice to its southernmost extremities.
The additional areas designated for new housing development schemes are the Strathspey Planning Plan and the La Bonne Intent Planning Scheme.
Since then lands have been designated along the East Bank Demerara for new housing schemes and have been identified as the Prospect Phase II Planning Scheme.
On the East Coast of Demerara (ECD), the South Endragt Planning Plan between Good Hope and Mon Repos north of the hinterland has also been formally designated for the development of new housing schemes. Additional lands have also been designated in the Official Gazette for new housing developments on the ECD. These include areas in Cummings Lodge and Industry.
According to the announcement in the Official Gazette, the Cummings Lodge site has Eugene Corriea International Airport as a new northern border for Parcel Industry 409 south of the old plan identified. Lands have also been identified in Annandale, ECD.
The new East Bank Demerara Housing development will border Covent Garden, Little Diamond, Arcadia and the East Bank Public Road. The area south of the Buddy Housing Scheme and North of the Mocha Access Road is also designated.
Housing and Water Minister Colin Croal recently oversaw the establishment of about 200 contracts up to $ 13.9B at the Arthur Chung Conference Center that serves the infrastructure required for creating new housing plans.
“We live in a society where the quality of housing is important,” Croal told a recent assembly as he highlighted the spin-off effects of the measures taken as a whole. With the 200 contracts, he said, it would also mean more employment, which in turn would lead to increased demand for various goods and services.
