Govt. support for Orealla, an ongoing Siparuta – Minister McCoy
Kaieteur News- The Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Public Affairs, Kwame McCoy has said that the Government’s support for the development of the villagers of Orealla and Siparuta is ongoing. The Minister was speaking during outreach to the fluvial communities on Friday.
Minister McCoy, joined by Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development Minister Anand Persaud, distributed nearly 400 hampers to residents, during the engagement in the communities of East Berbice-Corentyne (Region Six).
Of the lot, 240 hampers were donated to Orealla residents, and 130 were shared in Siparuta.

During his engagement with residents, Minister McCoy said that despite the pandemic, the Government would not restrict itself to helping the people. He said that President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali-led Administration is always keen to ensure the welfare of all citizens.
“We are not a fair weather Government. We are with you only when there are good times. We are with you even in the bad times because we truly and dearly believe that we have a role and responsibility for the people of Guyana and we do not treat it lightly. ”
Minister McCoy also said that no one should have to relive the turbulent times that followed the March 2 General and Regional Elections. As such, he urged residents to continue to stand firm “against any attempt to invade our democracy. This is important because of what democracy does. Democracy helps us in our development. It gives you a say, the people. It gives you an opportunity to criticize, and for you, the people, to hold us as a Government to account. ”
The Minister said the Coalition leaders were only concerned about improving the lives of their close associates, while burdening the common man. Meanwhile, Minister Persaud said there was enough evidence to show that the previous Government did nothing for the two riverine villages.
“We only gave Orealla village $ 10 million in late January in a COVID Presidential cash grant. I took an oath because I think no one’s rights should be taken away from him or her to choose the Government of the day. And the oath I took, and I want you all to join me, as long as I live, that I will work hard in every corner of this country to ensure that the APNU + AFC does not go back to the Government, ”he said.
The Minister also said that the Government has begun to transform Guyana and by 2025, the nation will become a torch to the world. To realize this status, he says, all Guyanese must cooperate. Ministers McCoy and Persaud then tabled questions from residents and sought to provide answers to the issues highlighted. (DPI)
