Guyana records 2 more COVID-19 related deaths

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has notified that two other people who tested positive for the new coronavirus (COVID-19) on December 22, 2020, have died. This takes the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 162.

The most recent deaths are an 88-year-old man from Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) and a 68-year-old woman from Region Four (Demerara -Mahaica).

These individuals died while being cared for at the Ministry’s COVID-19 medical facility.

The MOH sincerely sympathizes with the families of the two deceased and will make every effort to provide all the necessary support during this difficult time to provide any assistance needed.

The Ministry is also appealing to the public to respect the confidentiality of both deceased and their families and to allow them to mourn their tragic loss in peace.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES protocols (NO. 12), in force until December 31, 2020. This order emphasizes that:

  • the need to use a face mask correctly and consistently when leaving your home;
  • the importance of maintaining the physical distance six feet from others;
  • and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
