Guyanese celebrates petrol cost reduction

Kaieteur News – Wild celebrations are taking place in Guyana, a backwater province located on the Atlantic Coast of South America. CNN understands that these celebrations have exploded following an announcement by the long-spoken Finance Minister, announcing a $ 10 drop in the price of petrol from $ 180 per liter to $ 170 dollars per liter.
The Finance Minister is moved by eager crowds. Our TV cameras can hardly make it out, so enthusiastic Guyanese are celebrating this gasoline price reduction of less than 5 US cents per liter. The head of the Minister could hardly be seen in the midst of a host of supporters eager to shake his hands at the concern he shows to the traveling public.
One taxi driver, who we spoke to welcoming the reduction, says it will save at least US $ 1 a day, enough to buy a quarter liter of soda. Another said that he likes to suck gums and chew gum while driving and the reduction will allow him to give five cohorts and five extra chewing gum.
One opposition politician, however, claims that the reduction is empty and meaningless and reflects the chaos in which the government finds itself. He said the drop will do nothing for that pilot sleeping in the cockpit while his aircraft’s landing wheel has broken and lost height.
CNN caught up with Kaieteur News publisher Glenn Lall for a comment. He said no Guyanese should be paying for gasoline and that the only people who will benefit are those who have received Kaieteur and Canje blocks.
In response to the criticism, a government spokesman would only say that the reduction represents local content benefits, which will amount to billions of dollars.
Meanwhile, vegetable prices continue to increase fourfold in the country’s markets
Talk half and wait fuh de gasoline price to rise further next month!
