Leader of the Opposition Joseph Harmon has written to Alistair Routledge, President ExxonMobil Guyana seeks urgent meeting on problems being experienced on Liza Destiny platform which has seen gas flare up and a sharp decline in production.
In the press release, Harmon noted that the company had cut production from 90,000 barrels per day to 30,000 barrels per day due to faulty compressor equipment on board the Floating Production, Storage and Unloading platform.
“This reported that equipment is still malfunctioning which continues to delay the termination of excessive torching of gas produced, together with the significant reduction of operations up to a minimum production level, cause considerable concern to the The APNU + AFC opposition, which as you know, represents nearly half the Guyanese population in the National Assembly. I receive a number of queries from our constituents, civil society and concerned citizens expressing their concern that the performance of EEPGL (ExxonMobil’s subsidiary) since its inception, seems to fall far short of expectations and erodes their confidence in implementation safe and environmentally sound. Similar inquiries were received from my co-operating MPs and my office.
“So, I will seek an urgent meeting with you and your executive team at the earliest convenient opportunity to be briefed on issues to include this recent the development, root cause (s) of equipment failures leading to excessive torching and reduced production, your plan with a timetable for permanently addressing these underlying cause (s), and the economic and short-term and long-term environmental for all Guyana.
I propose to be accompanied by senior MPs including the Shadow Minister for Oil and Gas. I look forward to your response on this urgent matter ”.
