Health Minister advises against 24 hour alcohol use. before and after COVID-19 injection
Kaieteur News – Out of sufficient warning, the Minister for Health, Frank Anthony, advises against using alcohol 24 hours before one takes the COVID-19 vaccine and 24 hours after. Dr. Anthony made his comments in presenting a COVID-19 update on Tuesday when he sought to address emerging concerns about COVID-19 vaccines and alcohol use.

As it relates to the Sputnik V Russian Vaccine, there are reports that health officials have been urging people to refrain from using alcohol at least two weeks before their first shot and then for another 42 days.
In light of that, Dr. Anthony, “There is no scientific rationale for why people should abstain for that prolonged period, however, as with all vaccines, we would prefer people not to drink before they come for a vaccine and immediately after abstinence. ”He qualified his disclosure by pointing out that if health officials are going to observe people about the side effects of the vaccine, then those individuals would need to be sober.
“So we have not seen in any of the scientific literature that the vaccine reacts in any harmful way with alcohol, but out of an abundance of precaution, I would encourage people who come for the vaccine, at least over the 24 an hour before and the 24 hours after that, stay sober so we can monitor and ensure there is no adverse reaction, ”the Health Minister reiterated.
He would also have warned against using any medication before receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
When the government introduced its national COVID-19 immunization campaign in February, the filaria campaign was also ongoing and Minister Anthony had warned against taking filaria pills and COVID-19 vaccines on the same day. This, he said, was an additional precautionary measure to mitigate potential side effects.
It had also noted that it would be difficult to track and monitor side effects if two medical interventions were taken at the same time. However, it had noted that there was no evidence to suggest that medical issues could arise if both were taken at the same time.
