Labor cut to death by a drunken neighbor
Kaieteur News – Police are currently investigating the murder of a man in Berbice. The suspect, who is currently in custody, is said to be a neighbor of the dead man.
Deceased is Mark Griffith, 40, a laborer in Smithfield, New Amsterdam, Berbice. Reports suggest the murder took place at about 17: 10 hours last Sunday. Based on information provided by the police, Griffith drank alcohol throughout the day with his neighbor.
The victim’s sister, Samanda David, a businesswoman, told police that she and her brother shared the same home and that it was his norm to drink alcohol daily. She said when her brother was imbibes, he would usually get into arguments with her and a neighbor who answered the name “Smokey”. On the day in question, she revealed that her brother drank all day at home alone and around 15:00 hours, he and “Smokey” heard arguing over alcohol and food. Noticing that “Smokey” had heartbreak in her hands, the sister told her to stop the debate and they did.
However, at about 17: 10 hours, David noted that she was in the house when one of his friends, Imran, repeatedly called her out. When he responded, David said the friend’s anxious response was “coming fast”. The woman said she complied and when she ventured outside, she saw her brother lying in a ditch. Blood, she remembered, seemed to flow from a wound to her chest.
Imran, he added, used his bus to rush her brother to New Amsterdam Hospital where he received treatment. He later died. He is said to have suffered serious injuries that caused internal bleeding.
His body is currently in a New Amsterdam mortuary awaiting post mortem. (Malisa Playter-Harry)
