Man charged with possession of cannabis granted bail

On Friday, a MAN, who was found in possession of cannabis, was placed on $ 10,000 bail by Magistrate Leron Daly when he made an appearance at Georgetown Magistrates Court. John Slate of Sheriff Street, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to possession of a narcotics charge. It is alleged that on January 7, 2021, at Lot 11 North Road, a narcotic in his possession specifically, had 3 grams of cannabis. According to information provided, on the day in question, at approximately 09:30 hours, ranks from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Eve Leary, acting on information received, entered Lot 11 North Road. At that address, Slate was contacted and a request was made by the police to search for his person and bag in his presence, which he complied with. During the search, two transparent ziplock plastic bags containing suspected cannabis seeds, leaves and stems were discovered. The bags were shown to be Slate and he was told of the crime that had been committed. Slate was then arrested, cautioned and escorted to CID HQ with suspected cannabis. The cannabis was weighed in the presence of Slate. He was subsequently charged. The matter was adjourned until March 26.
