Kaieteur News – The man seen in a video is alleged to have been alternating with a policeman who led him to receive a ‘burst head’, having previously stolen a Venezuelan national moment in the Stabroek Market area.
Kaieteur News understands that the victim, Ricky Menque, 31, of Friendship, East Bank Demerara, had just left a minibus and was walking on the sidewalk when three men walking in the opposite direction picked on Sunday January 3rd, 2021 to him and relieved of a Samsung smartphone and $ 25,000, before compensating for their escape.
According to police, at about 16: 35hrs, ranks on a mobile police patrol responded to a report of a robbery with aggravation committed on a man in the Stabroek Market area.
The report noted that the ranks arrested a male suspect and placed him in the back of a police vehicle, when the man allegedly became aggressive and attacked the ranks who then defended themselves.
A physical confrontation took place between the suspect and police and the suspect was restrained and eventually transported to Brickdam Police Station.
The suspect, a 21-year-old man from Tucville, Georgetown, was positively identified by the victim as one of the robbers.
The police report also noted that the suspect had refused medical attention, while the injured police ranks were being treated at Georgetown Public Hospital.
Kaieteur News had reported that, based on the video seen in this announcement, the officer was seen arguing with the suspect who responded by cursing the cop.
The exchange of words became more intense and the suspect threw a handgun at the policeman, who avoided and returned a right hook to the suspect’s head.
The man stood up and started firing more at the officer. Eyewitnesses called him a short “cuff out”.
The officer then grabbed the suspect and pulled him out of the vehicle. He dealt with the suspect some other shots and knocked him to the ground. Another police officer, who was standing close, stepped in and kicked the suspect to his head.
Blood began to gush from his head and individuals who witnessed the so-called “show” rushed to assist. Eyewitnesses accused the officers of police cruelty and washing blood from the man’s face. He was then, for the second time, placed in the back of a police pick-up and taken away.
According to information, the Office of Police Professional Responsibility (OPR) is investigating the matter and is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, between the suspect and police members, to contact the officer in charge of the Police OPR on telephone number 227-1926 or the Divisional Police Division Commander at 226-1389.
In addition, yesterday morning, Menque stated in a Facebook group post that he was the victim of a robbery that occurred on January 3rd, 2021, in the vicinity of Demico House, Stabroek Market.
According to his mail, he was attacked on the sidewalk where people sell phone accessories, and that he had been stolen from his cellphone and $ 25,000.
Menque also pointed out that there were a number of bus drivers and taxi drivers in the area but no-one did anything to assist him.
In closing, he stated that he wanted his documents back and advised people to keep “four eyes out” when walking in the area.
