A man who killed a pensioner in a supermarket kept in prison

Kaieteur News – A 22-year-old man arrested for murdering a pensioner, whose burnt body was found in the Huaxin Supermarket compound, was detained in jail yesterday.
The defendant, Marco Seudatt, a laborer in Fourth Street, Foulis, East Coast Demerara, made his first court appearance at the Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Fabayo Azore where he was read the capital murder charge.
Seudatt was not required to plead to the charge that allegedly murdered 72-year-old Mathura Etwaru at the Huaxin Supermarket, Enmore.
Magistrate Azore remanded the 22-year-old man to prison and adjourned the matter until May 18, 2021. It was reported, on Monday morning, that an immovable Etwaru was found lying on the north side of the Supermarket with burning marks the upper parts of his body. The man’s body was found covered in short multi-colored pants and a gray shirt, lying on the ground by a 52-year-old artist sometime around 08: 16hrs.
According to a police report, the incident which was captured on a CCTV camera, showed that around 02: 46hrs on Monday, the 72-year-old man and Seudatt were seen having an argument. The 22-year-old then grabbed the man before pushing him to the north side of the fence. Afterwards, the laborer was seen picking up some empty cardboard boxes and went to the place where the deceased pushed. Sometime around 03: 12hrs, a fire was started in the same area where the pensioner was pushed.
This announcement was told that because of the uprising Seudatt had decided to push the deceased into the fire. Kaieteur News learned that Etwaru was suspicious of the young man after he was seen loitering in the area.
After being nabbed on Tuesday, the 22-year-old said during his confession, that the deceased confronted him and asked what he was doing there (in the compound). This led to the argument that led to the victim collapsing. The laborer admitted to firing some cardboard and throwing Etwaru into the fire.
According to police, the footage showed Seudatt picking up his bike and escaping the scene in the west direction.
The man’s body was taken to Lyken Funeral Parlor where a post mortem examination (PME) was carried out. It was later revealed that the pensioner had died of severe burns to his body and neck compression.
