

Home News Man wanted shot dead by Police
Twenty-two-year-old Sherwin Filley, also known as the “Red Ants” Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD), wanted by the Police in connection with several armed robberies, was in the early hours of Thursday’s shooting died.
Based on Police information, the now deceased man was wanted for robbery, robbery with violence and three counts of wounding were committed on a 50-year-old resident of Vryheids Lust, ECD.
Police said that on the day in question, ranks operating on intelligence had collapsed on abandoned wooden shackles in the vicinity of Ogle Seawall, where they saw Filley.
However, in an attempt to capture the wanted man, the ranks had to use force to open the door to gain access to the shackles. At the time, the now deceased man armed himself with heartbreak and attacked a Police rank.
In retaliation, the ranch released one round of its .38 Revolver service, hitting Filley in one of his eyes. He apparently collapsed and was picked up and transported to Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His body is in the GPHC mortuary awaiting post-mortem. An investigation into the fatal shooting has been launched.
