Kaieteur News – Construction of National Team Coaching Types among other amenities at the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Coaching Center under the FIFA Forward Program, located in Providence, East Bank Demerara is progressing satisfactorily despite challenges facing the global, cohabitation pandemic. -19 which had slowed the progress of work at the historic facility.
Federation President Wayne Forde has informed that even with the challenges faced, work is ongoing. This phase of work on the building also includes the construction of a resource / training center for training education; referee development and administration programs, team dressing rooms, kitchen, gym and pool.
The project, nestled on 8.5 acres of land has already been affecting the positive development of the nation’s footballers at all levels with the use of state-of-the-art all-weather turf (unveiled on May 13, 2019 from the Director of FIFA Member Associations and Veron Mosgengo-Omba) which the national senior team is currently using to whip themselves into tip-top shape ahead of the Concacaf Qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup starting in March this year against Trinidad and Tobago.
But in terms of the building and its completion, Forde has indicated that they now hope to have the same completed in time for use in the next 15 weeks.
“Work is ongoing; we are trying to make up for the time lost to covid-19 and the bad weather we have experienced over the past few months. However, I am confident and excited at the same time, that we will be welcoming our Youth Girls and Boys Teams to their first camp in May 2021.
The first female youth national team will be the first camp – I want to use this historic occasion to punctuate the importance we have given to the development of female football. “
Facilities development is a top priority for the Federation with other bases on the radar for improvement including facilities at Ann’s Grove, East Coast of Demerara and Vryman’s Erven, New Amsterdam, Berbice specifically targeted at creating places safe and comfortable for female development. . A total of Guya 20M dollars would be invested on these two bases.
