Launch of National Community Basketball League


The NCBL launched their initiative today at the Sleepin International Hotel and Casino.

Kaieteur News – The National Community Basketball League (NCBL), a not-for-profit organization, launched its initiative covering basketball promotion and development in Guyana.
At yesterday’s launch at the Sleepin International Hotel and Casino, the Chairman of the National Community Basketball League, Kwame Mentor, shared that the motivation behind establishing the NCBL was to give back to basketball and is positive that his organization will definitely add to the dynamics of basketball in Guyana.
He asked, “I’ve been around the sport all my life and this is our way of giving back to the sport, we can’t make money in this sport, so we do it for the love. .. we want to call all our sponsors are partners because we need everyone involved. “
Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) Executive Rawle Toney, who attended the launch, shared that the association and the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) fully support the NCBL.
Toney said, “This is a good initiative, and we are here to support it, this is exactly what basketball needs as we look at the return of sport but of course we are planning on getting all logistics in order as that the league can run smoothly. ”
Meanwhile, NCBL Technical Director Mark Bradford highlighted that all logistics and teams were in place as the NCBL awaited permission in the midst of the pandemic. The NCBL was birthed in 2012 but due to unforeseen circumstances was unable to host an annual event.
However, an NCBL organization consisting of Mentor Kwame, Lavern Fraser-Thomas, Rundell Ramsey, Marlon Thornton, Mark Bradford and Treiston Joseph will aim to host their first ‘King of the Hard Court’ tour for community teams by Easter once all necessary approvals are given.
